Making Kids Feel Special on Their Birthday

We just got through birthday season here in the Newman home. All three of my kids were born in March and April so now I can relax until Christmas!  {Don’t be jealous! Haha!}
050515 feeling specialMy goal each birthday is simple.  I want to make sure each child feels special on their day but that doesn’t mean throwing huge, expensive parties every year.  With three kids, I just don’t have, nor do I want to spend hundreds of dollars on their birthdays each and every year.  Don’t get me wrong, I have done parties at a children’s museum and at a gymnastics place, but that was because both times, I had babies and it was easier to do it outside of my house!  I like doing theme parties at my house but some years it doesn’t work out, especially when Easter falls too close to birthdays.  In recent years, I have even organized simple play dates so my birthday babe can be surrounded by friends and eat cake!

So here is just a short list of ways you can make a child feel special on his or her birthday without breaking the bank:

  • Have them wake to streamers and/or balloons on their doorway.
  • Have a special plate that you use only on birthdays.
  • Make what they want for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner.
  • Hide their presents.
  • Give them 1 gift for each year old they are.
  • Organize a simple play date so they can celebrate with friends.
  • Greet them after school with balloons and/or fresh flowers.

Moms, you do NOT have to get all stressed out and whip up a Pinterest worthy party to make YOUR child feel super special and loved!  And you don’t have to dish out a bunch of money to pay for an organized party {like bowling} either.  Do what you can do to make your child feel special and if you don’t have the time or resources, don’t stress out.  Kids won’t remember each and every birthday.  They will however, remember how you made them feel!  An extra dose of love is the best gift of all!

Happy celebrating!
Mary
