Lots of people like to bake with their kids but I’m afraid I am not one of them!
Here’s a scene I wrote about a few years ago when my older two were younger:
“Before we even started the kids licked the stir spoons and Lance put the bowl on his head. Eww! Not sanitary. I decided to give them their own little bowls with flour and other ingredients just to play in while I did the real thing. I tried to stay positive as I talked through what I was doing.
Then Lance started eating the flour/water mixture. Then the goop got all on their hands and it was all over the chairs they were standing on, the counter and the cupboard. Vienna rubbed her hands as she walked towards the sink so the crumbs got everywhere. This created more work for me and I could feel my enthusiasm draining from my very being!”
Fast forward 6 years, and I never did earn my “Mommy Brownie Badge” for baking with my kids, but I’m ok with that. I do other things with them that I prefer like board games and reading. I think it’s more important to do something together when I’m happy and having a good time verses doing something because it’s something we “should do” because of what we see on TV or online or what we think would make a fun memory for the kids!
I want to encourage anyone reading this that we don’t have to fit into a certain mold of how a mom should look. Not all Moms love baking with their children and that is perfectly ok! I certainly don’t!
Thanks for swinging by,
