Is Spring cleaning on your mind? Do you have a lot of clutter lying around that you need to get rid of? Wondering…
If you have stuff you no longer use, consider offering it to friends before giving it to a donation center or tossing it in the trash. In a time when many of us are watching our budgets, this is a great and easy way to help one another, and sadly not many people think to do it!
Friends and I have been sharing our unwanted stuff with one another for years now! From baby gear we no longer need to clothes to household items, you just never know what friends are looking for, or what a blessing your generosity might be to someone else.
Do you like this idea but aren’t sure HOW to go about offering your stuff? Here are some ideas on how to do this!
SHARE AT HOME
When one of my friends was moving, she put all her unwanted stuff in her garage on a table. We were at her house for her daughter’s birthday party and she invited us to go out and take what we wanted. I got a gorgeous framed print for my dining room and even lots of pantry items! In the end, she had less to load in her car for the donation center and dump.
SHARE AT MOMS GROUPS
I started doing this at a moms’ group I attended. We’d bring our unwanted items to our meetings to share. This was awesome especially since babies use certain things for such a short time and kids grow so fast! So any time you and a group of friends get together, suggest bringing a box of unwanted items to share!
I used to use Freecycle so decided to start a Facebook group with the same concept. An added plus to Facebook is that you can share photos and you don’t have to worry about connecting with strangers. Our group is secret and we only add people we know personally. Over the years I’ve saved tons of money by using our “Another Person’s Treasure” group! Consider starting one with your local friends and family!
SHARE BY ORGANIZING A SWAP
For those times when you have a lot to get rid of and you have too much to take pictures of, organizing a swap is tons of fun! It’s basically a free yard sale!! My friends and I have done about four! We’ve met at a park and shared things right out of our trunks while the kids played:
We’ve also met at a church gym. At that particular event, I had a donation truck come to pick up our leftovers. Look how much we had left over in the photo below!!
As you think about Spring cleaning, and purging all that unwanted clutter consider offering it to friends before donating! You’d be surprised what people take and how grateful they are! And in turn, you feel good about helping someone out.
